Bio

Leif is a trumpet player and band leader who grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and returned in 2022 after living in Port Townsend, Washington for five years. He spent time traveling across the United States with his wife, Stephanie, starting in 2016. Throughout his travels he had the privilege to play with and learn from many musicians across the country. His current projects include The Shaky Barbers, Lowire, and leading The Early Bedtime Boys.

From 14 years old, Leif played all over Ann Arbor and played in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Civic Youth Assembles. While attending Michigan State University, he studied with Etienne Charles and learned how to arrange and compose music. He writes for a variety of settings including small jazz groups and short film cues. Leif often records with Salish-Sound studios and Rainshadow Recording in Port Townsend.

Leif has worked with adults with developmental disabilities as both a caregiver and a community engagement specialist. He shared his love of music with his clients daily. Leif currently lives with his wife Stephanie and cat Moody in Ann Arbor.

Hailing from the Ann Arbor area, the Pontiac Trail Blazers have been the house bluegrass band for Detroit Street Filling Station since 2017. They are often joined by a bevy of special guests and focus on the beautiful harmonies and acoustic prowess that are unique to their Bluegrass roots. With a deep repertoire of traditional standards, originals, and unique covers, the Trail Blazers will keep you guessing with unexpected tunes and arrangements every week. Joining them this week will be a Leif Gearhart Hall on Trumpet. $10 Cover.
